So… I bought a lot of books.
Wondercon 2012 in Anaheim was a blast, even with the horrible weather. It poured on Saturday, so the walk from the car to the convention center (we had to park all the way at Downtown Disney, so about a mile away) had us looking like wet cats. Our pants were soaked through from waist to ankle. It took two hours to dry off.
Anyway, despite that, the panels were good (got a lot of new title suggestions from the Vertigo panel, especially, like American Vampire and New Deadwardians) and the dealer’s room was wonderful. I looooove the dealer’s room. I found probably about a good third of my shopping list and some blind buys.
I also created a tumblr and am following a bunch of comics people on there, where I just got another whole list of strong female protagonist story arcs that DC managed to not screw up. I’ll be working on that list next.
Currently am going throught a Gail Simone phase and am reading the Secret Six digitally, since several volumes are out of print. I have discovered that digital is an excellent means to buying OOP comics instead of the expensive used print editions from opportunists. It’s also nice just to have it on my iPad for reading whenever. Now the problem is deciding which series to buy in print, and which ones to buy digitally. My price point seems to be no higher than $1.99, which cuts out a lot of the newer stuff (usually $2.99 or even $3.99, which is absurd for a floppy, much less a digital copy). Older stuff though tends to be cheaper, and Comixology has frequent sales that I just have to keep an eye out for where they will price certain series at .99, which is awesome!
I want to review many of the titles from that pile above, and have already found some wonderful gems. I just have to get in my happy writing place, which is not really where I am right now (again). I *do* want to continue to write though, so hopefully, soon.
