Since we were only there for 2 days, what we ate/drank is kinda short. Only 2 lunches and 1 dinner, and a snack.

So in the first AX post, I was complaining about the mile walk from our car on Saturday. That was because we parked by this restaurant, which we definitely wanted to go to, so we had to walk a mile to the convention to get our badges, shop, walk a mile back to the restaurant, eat, walk a mile back to the con, do stuff, then walk a mile back to the car. So much walking!
They had some lunch special with their wings, 10 wings for 25 cents each. So I got that (Hot), and their disco tots, which is tater tots covered in gravy and cheese. Really liked them both, but the disco tots should probably be split between four people instead of two. That was too many tots!
For my beer, I had the Pyramid Seasonal Curve Ball.
Very nice for a hot day after walking. I actually had two of these, ’cause Malvitas ordered me another one when I was in the restroom. So I was pretty tipsy on the way back to the con.
For dinner, we went to Lazy Ox, which I’ve been wanting to go to forever.
Lazy Ox serves lots of small plates. I almost got stabbed for taking pictures though. Malvitas doesn’t like me taking pictures of the food, he just wants to eat. Which I totally understand… I just like taking pictures. 😦
Curry polenta with mushrooms. This was my favorite. I love creamy polenta, and the curry flavor was very light.
Super terrible blurry picture of cauliflower. The cauliflower was caramelized, and seasoned with chile and… lime? Very citrusy and garlicky. Pretty good.
Okra with spiced lebni and hazelnuts. I didn’t care for this one. I think I only like okra if it’s deep fried (’cause really, what’s not good deep fried?). Gave this one to Mal to eat.
Huevo andoni. Chicken liver, pureed french fries, poached egg, chorizo oil. If I wanted truffles (which I really really did), it would’ve been an extra $15, so I held back. This was delicious, although I kinda wish it had the truffles. Also, the original review in the LA Times had chorizo instead of liver, which might’ve been better.
Dessert was butterscotch pudding covered in caramel and mascarpone (I think…). Delightful. It was a shit-ton of caramel, btw.
For drinks, I had some sort of white wine that started with a Z that was a tad dry. I can’t find it on the menu. It wasn’t what we ordered; the waitress brought us the wrong one. But Mal was happy with it, so whatevs. And to go with dessert, I had really delicious jasmine tea from Intelligentsia (although the waitress forgot to bring it, so I didn’t get it until after dessert).
Every AX we always go to Yardhouse. They have some of the best vegetarian food, since they use Gardein. On Sunday for lunch, we both got Gardein chicken; Mal got buffalo wings and I got chicken strips. We also got to hear some of the most inane, spoiled conversation ever, “I mean, if I’m going to the Dominican Republic, I’ve got to fly first class, you know? Not to sound spoiled, but, I mean, really. And Mom totally doesn’t get it.” Also got an eyeful of the Jesus freaks with their signs and bullhorns, harassing passerbys. For drinks (and I seriously needed one after that), I had a Bloody Mary (my standard cocktail), and whatever beer Malvitas had, which I forgot now.
We didn’t eat dinner on Sunday, but instead went and visited the dozen or so food trucks outside of the convention center. We wanted something cold and refreshing, so we chose Fluff Ice with their shaved ice cream.
We opted to split a Pretty in Blue, which was strawberry shaved ice cream, with strawberries, condensed milk and blue honey boba.

Yummy, especially on a hot summer day. It was really delicious. I love shaved ice cream with condensed milk.
Thus concludes this year’s Anime Expo! In less than a week, I’ll be in San Diego attending Comic-Con and hopefully will have another string of posts.
