Answer: TOO MUCH STUFF.
I always buy a lot at SDCC. I feel like I bought more than normal.
The books. I seem to have bought mostly superheroine comic books. Some of Gail Simone’s Birds of Prey run (she’s my favorite superhero comic book writer right now). Power Girl, ’cause I love Power Girl, and this is supposed to be part of a good run with Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti. The last Madame Xanadu, which I started reading because of Amy Reeder’s art. Manhunter, which I don’t know much about, but came recommended by dcwomenkickingass’s tumblr. I also picked up the Alice in the Country of Clover manga (40% off at Seven Seas!) and as I mentioned earlier, the spinoff Chew comic, Secret Agent Poyo! Poyo is a BAMF. I can’t wait to get me a Poyo plushie. I also picked up the second Shortpacked in preparation for the first Shortpacked which is coming via the Dumbing of Age Kickstarter.
Kate Beaton’s two calendars (there was a deal if I bought them with Hark! a Vagrant, which Malvitas wanted, so I got both of them instead of dithering over which one was better). They’re filled with little bits of trivia on dates like, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows published” or “Nikola Tesla’s birthday.” Also above that is the Adventure Time wallet I bought, even though I think I’ve seen only about three episodes of Adventure Time. I can’t help it. I love the idea of Fiona (she’s Finn’s counterpart in the alt-world Land of Ooo where everyone is opposite gendered of their real world counterparts).
I needed a new bus pass thingie anyway since my Underground one from 20 years ago finally broke.
Tokidoki’s exclusive SDCC shirt. I got the Captain America one last year, so I wanted to check out this year’s, and it was super cute (as all their stuff is), PLUS, Cyclops is totally making chicken & waffles, which is one of my favorite dishes, AND Dr. Doom is being intimidated by Bastardino. Malvitas got one, too. It also came with a free pink Sharpie.
I’ve been wanting to buy Sho Murase’s artwork forever because it’s flipping amazing, and I finally caved this con. Then it took me like fifteen minutes to decide, because she also had this stunning Maleficent in purple that I was starstruck by, but it wouldn’t match anything else in my apartment! These two just looked better together. But omg, it hurt to put it back. Maybe if I see her again.
L to R: Skeletrino from Tokidoki. He was the one I was missing from my collection. The Android SDCC exclusive 2 pack. I HAD to get the nerdy red shirt Android with SDCC badge! The BBQ one was just ’cause he came with him. I got a plain pork bun in my pork bun blind box. And a Bastardino Jr. Tokidoki Cactus Pup. Unfortunately I already have him. He came free when they accidentally overcharged my card at the booth. So can’t complain.
They are FREAKING ADORABLE.
The most expensive thing I bought at Comic Con. I started off collecting the Kotobukiya Bishoujo line with the Marvel women, since that’s who came first. I have the original Black Widow (not the stupid new one where she looks like she’s part snake), Rogue, Psylocke, Phoenix (green), and White Queen. Those are all 1:8 scale. When the DC line started, they switched to 1:7 figures, which made them like a whole head taller than the Marvel women. Since I like the DC characters better, and the Marvel women then were made larger to match the DC characters (but then they didn’t match the earlier ones), I stopped collecting Marvel, and switched to DC. It also helped in that I didn’t particularly care for the Marvel sculpts that followed (Jean Grey, Sue Storm, X23, Mystique, the horrid Black Widow resculpt, Ms. Marvel… Ok, Ms. Marvel was actually nice, but she didn’t maaaaaatch… /whine).
Anyway, I was completely disinterested in the Marvel line… until they announced Storm. I LOVE Storm. And when I saw her sculpt, I knew I had to get her. She is gorgeous. And she’s curvy! Look at her! She even has a teeny bulge on her waist! How AWESOME is that?? There was an SDCC exclusive white variant (as in white costume…), but this is her original costume from Giant Sized X-Men #1.
Her hands are detachable so you can have either plain hands, plain hands with blue ice rings, or clear blue ice hands with blue ice rings.
I need a display cabinet for these…
