Random food post here! But it’s my blog, so I’ll do what I want!
Out of curiosity, I decided to make Serious Eats’ ramen pizza. I won’t post the recipe here, so if you’re interested, you can click the link and head over there.
It’s a fairly straightforward recipe. Boil ramen until flexible, but not completely soft. Smush into oiled frying pan. Top with cheese, then sauce (so the sauce doesn’t leak through!), more cheese, then toppings, and bake. I made the sauce from scratch, but you can use jarred pizza sauce to make it even faster if you wish.
I really like this sauce, which is also from Serious Eats. Fairly quick and easy. Olive oil, butter (butter is magic in tomato sauces), tomatoes, parsley, basil, garlic, salt, pepper.
Pressed the ramen into the oiled pan.
Topped with cheese, sauce, more cheese, and then toppings. This is basic pepperoni and mushroom.
Baked for 20 minutes in the pan. Looks great, right??
Lol, pizza did not want to come out of the pan. Also the noodles did not get all nice and crispy like the one on the website. They were pretty soft, except on the edges. The edges were nice and crispy, and gave me a hint of what the whole pizza should be like. This pizza was pretty floppy.
Here’s a closeup of the slice I managed to cut out. Obviously a ramen pizza-like thing. It had a nice taste to it. Slightly chewy due to the al dente noodles. I liked it, despite the inability to be eaten with hands only. This is a fork pizza.
Anyway, not the healthiest of meals (duh), so not something I would cook on a regular basis. But pretty good, and it was fun. I’d make it again. Maybe I’d make sure the noodles get nice and fried next time before starting to load it up. The oil may not have been hot enough.
