This year saw the return of Shaz to Fanime! Hooray! The Terrible Cult is reunited once again! Sadly, this may have also been our last Fanime, as two members seem to be over it, which bums me out to no end because I look forward to Memorial Day Weekend every year, and I know we’ll never get our act together for a regular meet up otherwise. Fanime gave us an excuse and a solid date for meeting up every year.
This was also the year that Fanime FINALLY got their act together re: registration, and there was ZERO LINE. Seriously. Last year and the year before we waited like 3 hours for our badges. It was obscene. I was dreading this year, and wondering how they would mess it up. This year was a breeze and I loved it. So thank you Fanime!
Onto the con!
Shaz, FeyNouveau, and I attended Wondercon 2014, held April 18-20. We only went for one day though, so it was a very rushed day. We only attended one panel, and then spent the rest of the time in the dealer’s room, which was kind of a bummer. Also, I am burning out on taking cosplay pics, which depresses me. I love cosplay, but it’s hard finding ones that I really like, and then I always find pics later of ones that I missed out on. Plus other people take way better pics than I do. Anyway, more after the jump.
My Comic-Con haul! (and I didn’t bust the credit card)
Normally not a fan of the giant bags, but c’mon… it’s Adventure Time!!
More after the jump…
This is the first year I cosplayed at SDCC. And a big group cosplay, too! We are cosplaying Adventure Time, with Princess Bubblegum, Lumpy Space Princess, Simon (descending into the madness of the Ice King), Marceline, and Fionna (with a handmade Cake). Peebs lost her crown TWICE somehow. LSP is 80s version (which was super fun). Simon was pretty popular. Everywhere we went, kids loved him and wanted their picture taken with him. And he wasn’t in his full blown Ice King form, but they still would yell, “ICE KING.”
I was also asked if my wig was my real hair, which was weird. I wish. That’d be some rad hair.
Anyway, jump for more cosplay at SDCC!
A series of the awesome displays companies put up for SDCC.
Hit the jump for more!
Ok, I’m almost current now! SDCC took place this year July 18-21 in its usual, overcrowded place. Through the magic of my friend’s computer-fu, he managed to get all of us tickets for my sixth year of attending. Six of us packed into Shaz’s house (MANY THANKS TO HER) and put up with us for five days. This was the most people I went with, although we didn’t all hang out together simultaneously, and would drift together and apart throughout the day. I went for all four days, and we STILL didn’t get to see everything we wanted, and BARELY made it through the dealer’s room, finally finishing it Sunday afternoon. We didn’t get to see a thing offsite, which is unfortunate, as there was a Hello Kitty event that I really wanted to go to. We lost a lot of time doing silly stuff like… eating lunch (horrors). Next year, if we can go, we’re bringing PB&J for at least part of the time.
This time I took enough pictures to split this event up into its old categories. First up: What I Watched (panels).
Anime Expo was pretty fun! Met up with Bamboo Dong from ANN and I coordinated my cosplay with her. She was Super Hime, aka Princess of the Crystal of Penguindrum. I was Penguin #3, or the girl penguin, who has a fondness for knitting. This year, Anime Expo arranged to have a half dozen or so cosplay sets, where people can go and take pictures in premade situations–a pink girl’s bedroom, a graveyard, a classroom, a cherry blossom garden, etc.
AX excels at badge coordination. Long line, but super fast! Unlike say… Fanime. However, their panel lines SUCKED and all panels started late, except for the one that was the first one of the day. It seriously took like half an hour to get us in the room, and they wouldn’t start letting us in until 10 minutes before the panel started… if we were lucky.
Anime Expo was held July 4-7 at the LA Convention Center this year, with no interference of the X Games like last year (thank god).
