Things have been quiet on this blog, but this month’s Manga Moveable Feast has nudged my lazyass brain enough to make me want to contribute. Hosting this month is @ProfessorBlind over at Rocket Bomber. I’m usually talking to him about food and beer or remembering “fondly” my old indie bookstore days. Currently, I am inspiring him to write an super unhealthy cookbook which will sell a billion copies during Father’s Day.
Anyway, the subject for today is Appetizers Wednesday–”The Manga My Best Friend Lent Me That Got Me Into Manga.” And seriously, just now I was going to be all, “ha, I got into manga on my own,” when my creaky memory was all, “Nope, nope.”
Wow, was summer 2012 disappointing or what? Disastrous. Such promise, and there was almost zero follow through.
I’ve always seen Neapolitan spaghetti in anime and manga. I just never knew what it was. When I found the recipe in Kitchen Princess volume 7 during this month’s Manga Moveable Feast, I decided I had to make it to see what it was like. (I just had to make sure not to burn it like Aoba does frequently in Cross Game.)

I’m ending my contributions to the Oishinbo/Foodie MMF with two recipes from Kitchen Princess! (I posted them both today because I am off to Fanime for the long weekend along with a self-imposed internet ban, and wasn’t sure how to format tweets correctly for posting in the future).
In the penultimate post, I attempt an easy sounding recipe for yogurt bread from volume 6, when Najika goes back to her childhood home, pre-foster care.
My third manga for the Oishinbo/Foodie Manga Moveable Feast, is Kitchen Princess, where a girl is determined to find her Flan Prince and fulfill her promise to him: to make him the most delicious dessert in the whole world!
